How is graphite density measured?

Graphite material is one kind of material with porous structure. Its density is divided into bulk density and true density.

The so-called bulk density (D), refers to the ratio of mass (m) to its volume (V) of the graphite material (D=m/V). The true density is the ratio of the mass of the graphite material to the true volume (excluding its pores).

The pores of graphite material have inner air pores and surface openings air pores (or apparent air pores). The apparent porosity is the ratio of the volume of the openings air pores to the total volume of the specimen. The methods of detection of apparent porosity include vacuum method and boiling method. True porosity(Po)=[True density(Ρ)-Volume density(ρ)]/True density(Ρ).
